Prior to this contest, I had an idea to make a character like this on my own, but then 1200 was posted and my mind blew up with a spectrum of ideas and possibilities. If I could create enough lore and background, maybe I could make this contest perfect, and still a challenge for me. Being a science and evolution sort of person, the idea of having an entire physical and tangible world being created by gods was an odd concept to build on and I had a few issues with it personally. How could I sell this was a big thing, so I took a step back and worked on the lore. I took inspiration from traditional Japanese lore about Kistunes and the gods to create the tribes and the lore of the world. Then I went from there. Traditional Japanese fans as a weapon, because I collect them, and it can't be a Kitsune without foxfire, so why not add that too! There, three legendaries, now time to design the hero. I just went with the flow and fell in love with my first design, though sadly I lost the PSD file but had saved it as a PNG before my SAI crashed, so I had the rough sketch and went from there. After that came writing the story while working on the characters information. I wanted a narrative that, at the end, reveals the hero to be the narrator, though that's unknown by the listener but known to the judges. I wanted something different for this comp, and I think I did it.
